Pakistan should hand over the work of Kartarpur gurdwara back to the Sikhs: India

India strongly opposed the decision of Pakistan to entrust the work of managing and maintaining the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara to a non-Sikh institution, calling for the Government of Pakistan to withdraw this arbitrary decision against the sentiments of the Sikhs.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “We have seen reports that according to which the work of managing and maintaining the Pakistan Holy Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib, from the minority Sikh community organization Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee to a non-Sikh organization, Evacuee Trust Property Board being given.

This unilateral decision of Pakistan is condemnable and is against the spirit of opening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor and religious views of the Sikh community, the statement said. Such steps reveal the genuineness of the longstanding claims of rights and welfare of the Pakistani government and religious minority communities.

The Foreign Ministry called on Pakistan to withdraw arbitrary decisions that violate the rights of the Sikh community. The statement said that the Sikh community has the right to manage matters related to the management of Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
